Couples and Money
HTM crew! A group photo from when we went down to Jacksonville Beach and recorded this episode.

Talking about money with your partner can be extremely hard! We’ve all heard funny stories and countless anecdotes of money fights within relationships, but the fact remains that these disagreements often end in broken relationships. This week we have an honest and revealing conversation with our wives about how we talk about and handle our finances as couples. We also had some great questions that were posted in our Facebook group- some specific ones we get to are:

  • Any advice for newlyweds in handling finances together? (from Chelsea)
  • What was our biggest financial disagreement? (from Katy)
  • Do we agree on the goal of financial Independence? (from Connor)
  • (plus a bunch of other embarrassing and funny stories!)

Southern Swells Bulletproof DenaliAnd since we recorded this episode while at the beach down in Jacksonville, it was fitting that we stumbled upon a fantastic new local brewery! At the beginning of this episode we each cracked open and enjoyed a Bulletproof Denali by Southern Swells Brewing Co. which you can learn all about on Untappd. If you enjoyed this episode, be sure to subscribe and review us in Apple Podcasts, Castbox, or wherever you get your podcasts!

Cheers!

There are a number of confusing things in life- for some it’s deciphering the latest Christopher Nolan film, for others it might be the process of building whatever is in that flat pack box from Ikea. But what about taxes? They can also be a puzzling topic and we also tend to have some janky tax ideas in our brains. Unfortunately, those ideas are often what we base our decisions on if we don’t have a tax professional in our life. So our goal for this episode is to clear up some more common tax misconceptions out there and to make sure that we’re all making decisions based on what’s true instead of based on a video that someone made on TikTok, or what we heard a friend say. 37 0

Jennifer Barrett is a longtime financial journalist and she has written for publications like The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Money, and Newsweek. She has accomplished so much in the world of money: Jennifer has developed and hosted a popular personal finance video course on Udemy, given a TEDx talk on the importance of wealth-building, and she’s also appeared on many TV shows as well. And central to our conversation today, she also has a new book that just came out, that’s titled “Think Like a Breadwinner” which is all about empowering women who want to earn more money. This is a helpful episode for everyone out there, but especially for the working woman. 53 3
