This episode is chock full of personal finance gold. Sure, we spend a good amount of time talking about negotiating, but we also cover intentional spending, the psychology behind being smart with your money, and rethinking the money ‘truths’ we’ve grown up with. We are stoked to have Ramit Sethi join us as we cover all those topics and more, which can also be found in his book ‘I Will Teach You to be Rich’ (and stick around to the end as we’re giving away a few copies as well)! Ramit has written about personal finance for the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times and is a veteran in the personal finance community. Living a rich life is different for everyone and we’re glad to have Ramit Sethi on this episode to remind us to dream big.

And over at Ramit’s site: IWillTeachYouToBeRich.com, you can find links to the updated 2nd edition of his book along with lots of other great resources.

During this episode we each enjoyed a cold brewed coffee since we recorded this episode in the morning (back with craft beer next week)! And if you enjoyed this episode, be sure to subscribe and give us a quick review in Apple Podcastsor wherever you get your podcasts- we’d love to hear from you.

Best friends out!

Because of this episode I negotiated a 10% raise today. As a very meek person I have never asked for a raise in my life. But I spoke well, presented figures and used the ‘briefcase’ method and it was accepted and I was offered more than I asked for!

There are a number of confusing things in life- for some it’s deciphering the latest Christopher Nolan film, for others it might be the process of building whatever is in that flat pack box from Ikea. But what about taxes? They can also be a puzzling topic and we also tend to have some janky tax ideas in our brains. Unfortunately, those ideas are often what we base our decisions on if we don’t have a tax professional in our life. So our goal for this episode is to clear up some more common tax misconceptions out there and to make sure that we’re all making decisions based on what’s true instead of based on a video that someone made on TikTok, or what we heard a friend say. 37 0

Jennifer Barrett is a longtime financial journalist and she has written for publications like The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Money, and Newsweek. She has accomplished so much in the world of money: Jennifer has developed and hosted a popular personal finance video course on Udemy, given a TEDx talk on the importance of wealth-building, and she’s also appeared on many TV shows as well. And central to our conversation today, she also has a new book that just came out, that’s titled “Think Like a Breadwinner” which is all about empowering women who want to earn more money. This is a helpful episode for everyone out there, but especially for the working woman. 53 3
